Episode: 11 (Sakura, Tomoyo, and the Mansion): After Kero-chan identifies the card keeping Tomoyo’s chest closed as The Shield, Sakura turns her Key into The Sword and slashes at it, breaking the Card’s power. Sequence Number: A17 (key).

This fierce cel is part of a sequence that is a real tour de force of animation. Rather than simply showing Sakura swiping with The Sword from a distance, the “camera” instead brings the viewer right into the middle of the action. First, we dive dramatically in toward Sakura’s face as she gathers the inner strength to use the Card. (The next frames actually give a close-up of just her right eye).
It takes only a few seconds, but this sequence gives a sense of the scary intensity Sakura needs to summon to use the Cards. The equally intense and unusually colorful douga fills the entire sheet, even extending up above the registration holes.
