Ep. 7: Thumbelina (Gribbitt groom), cuts 224, 226, according to notes on the top margin of the cel. Mushi’s production of this celebrated tale includes a comic witch who instigates complications in the tiny girl's life. Here Thumbelina is trying to escape from her first contracted husband, an addle-brained frog, by using a vine to swing to safety. But the witch simply huffs and puffs and blows her back to the lilypad.

The character design, using the American “Salem-era” witchy archetype with the Puritan hat and crooked stick (that also works as a flying broomstick) show the series strong reliance on US-side animation of the time. The character could well have stepped out of a “Fractured Fairy Tale” in Jay Ward Productions’ Rocky and Bullwinkle.

The cel came with its annotated douga, unfortunately damaged by a previous owner who separated it roughly from the back of the cel.
