This intense image of the flower fairy shows her with tightly folded hands, apparently begging or praying. She alone of the yōkai world is willing to stick up for Nezumi Otoko, who indeed seems to have been conned by someone even more tricksy than he is. So I now think that this image comes from the scene in which the poor “Rat Man” gets surrounded by his fellow yōkai and sentenced to his fate.
This A2 keyframe is remarkably finished, using blushing and shadows well to create a three-dimensional effect. It was preceded by an equally emotional A1 frame (see first thumb) showing Hanako with eyes closed and hands in loose fists beside her head. A second thumb shows a little “Aア” planning sketch showing how her hands come together into the “prayer” pose.
Though I’m not sure, I now think the A2 cel (next item) is from this cut, showing her eyes popping open and the hands beginning to drop down to chin level.
