Cut 68. The evil fairy Maleficent storms off the stage in a peal of wicked laughter, and the three good fairies (played by Rika Sasaki, Naoko Yanagisawa, and Chiharu Mihara) huddle together to comment privately on Meilin’s intense performance. “She’s amazingly good!” Rika exclaims. “Yes, especially as she said she didn’t like the part,” Chiharu adds. “She’s really gets into everything she does,” Naoko finishes.
This small lot came up randomly on Mandarake, and I was glad to add this to my Ep. 42 collection. It consists of the A1 genga (featured above), plus a planned inbetweener, labeled “Aイ” (or “Ai”) that shows the three halfway through their huddle move. (See first thumbnail.)
Both these sketches were much fainter than usual, and so in scanning I have darkened them substantially for easier viewing.
The second thumb adds a nice post-genga shuusei of the A1 keyframe, done by Katsunori Kimizuka [君塚 勝教], this episode’s animation director.
