Walking down the street to the place where she will meet up with Syaoran, Sakura stops for a moment to appreciate what an absolutely beautiful day it is.

The featured image shows the artboard (entirely a photocopy) that came with this lot: it shows that (like the cut that ends this lovely-day reverie) we were supposed to see the background behind Sakura from an angle. However, at some point (as the screencap and the finished bg show), the animators decided that we would see her walking in profile, and the wall behind her would be perpendicular to the viewers.

The first thumb shows the revised artboard that made this change (also a photocopy). The artist (or a supervisor) saw that the spokes in the fence were too far apart to mesh with the rest of the cuts, so the second thumb shows the final design. That, unlike most of my sketchwork from this series, is entirely hand-drawn in graphite. It is also interesting that the artist, without prompting, depicted the vegetation behind the fence growing out around it and hanging down the wall in places, giving the scene a realistic, “lived-in” feel.
