This nice image shows the magical fox who is Hans’s companion in this tale. Peeking around a corner of the witch's shattered palace, he's warning his friend not to let the Golden Bird tempt him into stealing her golden bird-cage. Though the best image I’ve gotten of him so far, the cel is a little damaged, probably from a previous owner’s effort to free it from its douga. It also preserves a top kabuse layer, also labeled A9, which adapts Lulu’s folded-up hand.

Lulu was voiced by Toshiko Fujita, a seiyuu with an extensive repertory in early anime, including performance of the theme song and the role of the young fairy-tale lad Pierre in Toei’s Wonderful world of Puss ‘N Boots (長靴をはいた猫, “Nagagutsu o Haita Neko,” or "The Cat Who Wore Boots"). This hugely successful 1969 film cemented Toei Studios’ dominant role in the emerging industry, and an image of the feline protagonist became the company’s iconic logo.
