Episode 9 [Sakura and the Exciting Aquarium], cut 55. On her way to her first real one-on-one date with Syaoran, Sakura goes through a romantic reverie because of the day’s absolutely perfect weather.
This is one of the copy sketches that came with this background. Like the previous one, it is a studio photocopy, but this one has been heavily marked up by the background artist or a supervisor. The right outline of the tree (important to set on the book layer) has been creased through the sketch sheet onto the board used to paint the tree, and the details of the railing on top of the wall have all been overcast with heavy graphite lining. Visit the first thumbnail for a close-up of part of the sketch, where you can see that Sakura resolves into the “dots” of photocopy, but that the railing and tree show considerable holograph work in graphite.
This set also included the rougher A9 sketch of Sakura (see second thumbnail), as she snaps back to attention and rushes off. This, however, is entirely photocopied and shows no holograph mark-up or revision.
