She opens her eyes and, in a single move (animated on threes, or 8 to a second), turns to her front and looks up to the ceiling, as if spotting the UFO once more. This keyframe, showing the midpoint of this move, was clear in the final version, so I was able to get a screen grab of this image:
Again, Yoneda’s genga shuusei is featured with the rejected genga keyframe in the thumbnail. It’s not hard to see why this image was rethought: if Chiaki has her eyes tight shut at the start, it’s hard to imagine her getting them this wide open a half second later. And the combined swivel and tilt of her head was tricky to make realistic. So the shuusei shows her eyes still slowly opening as her head comes around farther forward. Interestingly, Yoneda made the contours of her hair much more complex at this point; the deliberately minimalist “domestic poor @nimation” approach normally left the hair mostly flat without highlights or shadows.
