And here is the finished form of the image, put right in a genga shuusei by animation director Yoneda.
The rejected genga (see thumb) is really very good and similar in impact, but it is interesting to compare the two in a flicker to appreciate how completely the animator rethought Chiaki’s pose and the details of her face:
It is interesting to see how the frame of her glasses remain the same, but the slant of her face shows her looking up just a bit less abruptly in the shuusei. Also the gengaman seems to have had a vague notion of where Chiaki’s ear needed to be placed. And, as before, Yoneda adds much more contouring in the hair than was usual in NieA art.
