Episode 9, Cut 57. Expecting trouble from Kirakishou during the play-within-a-play, Shinku has allowed herself to be used as a doll that is used as a prop. Now, during the performance, Elder Jun watches with some discomfort while two of the characters fight over her, each demanding to buy the valuable doll at a curiosity shop. At one point Shinku seems to drift upward toward the flies, as if tossed carelessly into the air. But as she goes up, we see that in fact she’s being held tightly around the middle by the customer who insists that he is destined to be her proper owner.

I’ve featured here the rough for the A4 (end key) image. In color and drawing style it is a close match for the roughs that I have from Ep. 7, so I believe that it is the work of the senior animation director of both episodes, Akiko Matsuo. In this case the animator’s work passed muster with the senior supervisor, and the genga (and resulting douga) are identical with this issue.

In the thumbs I’ve added the layout for the A4 keyframe (not such a bad effort this time) and also a tenderly rendered rough for the A2 keyframe, where the dollhandled Shinku seems not at all unset with her rough treatment but gently asleep, saving her strength for the genuine crisis about to happen.
