Cuts 42, 47. A little later, the group sits down to a fancy fish dinner, courtesy of Yuka, the ex-teacher’s wife who is obviously the brains of this new venture. “So this fish was ...?” the impressed Tetsu exclaims, and Tadashi nods smugly.
Tadashi allows Tetsu to believe that he caught the impressive fish himself, but we learn later that he’s not very competent in that regard, and so (as Yuka is aware) it came from the fish market. The image featured comes from the first part of the cut (the teacher’s self-satisfied nod); the second part of the cut (not imaged) is shown from the same perspective and shows Tadashi continuing to chatter happily with the others.
Minor characters like these always give animators trouble, especially during scenes in which they are being introduced. So for contrast I’ve shared in the thumbnails two preliminary images, one a very vague genzu by episode director Daisuke Takashima placing Tadashi in the frame, and the layout, a well-drawn sketch, just not remotely this character.
