And here are the A1 and C1 gengas digitally pasted together. The cut gives both images as static END ones, although at the douga stage Karada’s mouth was given a separate layer as it quickly drops open in shock during the first half-second. The cut then lasts more than four seconds more, while the two heads slide apart verrrry slowly.
In the thumbs I’ve added an unaltered scan of the A1 genga, along with a very elegant shuusei by senior animation director Shinya Hasegawa. Unlike Ikuko Itou, Hasegawa almost always was content with partial shuuseis, but his distinctive style of sketching, especially in the eyes and eyebrows, come out in images like this.
