Cut 172. “She really doesn’t like being treated like a kid, doesn’t she?” Shōko comments to Hiro a moment later. But Hiro is oblivious, watching Karada-chan playing happily in the water. This A1 tome image holds on the screen for two-and-a-half seconds, and soon we see that his mind is far away from Shōko’s question.

This too was an unproblematic cut consisting of an A1 END image. It is, like so many of the close-ups in this artistically complex series, a three-quarters profile. But Hiro is (at this stage of his life) a “one-eyed rascal” like so many enigmatic males in anime. (Yukito Kunisaki in Air comes to mind). So that damnable left eye is blessedly not in play in this series of sketches.
The genga is featured above, with Oki’s rough (good, just a little stiff) in the first thumb and Itō’s smoother shuusei in the second thumb. These two seem to have gone straight to the genga/douga stage without need for a second rough by Oki.
