Episode 5, cut 14. In the “rewind” version of this series, college-aged Jun checks the mail that has been delivered to his apartment this morning and is surprised to find a second magazine with instructions on “how to build a girl.” Copy Shinku (the result of his first such effort) warns him sternly from the entrance to the bedroom not to even think about looking at it.

Hirofumi Morimoto, who shared overall animation direction with character designer Kyuta Sakai, was the senior AD for Ep. 5 and so probably is the artist responsible for the rough sketch above. As you can see, Shinku was originally drawn to look nearly adult-sized standing in the doorway. But her image was shrunk to doll size in the final CGI footage. Nevertheless, you can see from the detail from this cap how precisely the character and costume design were realized, especially the shark-tooth borders that Shinku’s skirt and blouse get in this series.

In the first thumb I’ve added the layout, showing Shinku with an uncharacteristically shocked expression, perhaps because the animator sketched in her costume around an outline of her unclothed form. The second adds the B1 TOME douga in the second, showing all those shark teeth in precise definition. (The A1 layer showed Jun’s futon.)
Spoiler! The kit explains how to make a Copy Souseiseki, a character terminated in the second season of the original Rozen Maiden by the series baddie Kirakisho.
