Cut 272. The cake is delivered, sliced and served, and Hiro pronounces it delicious. The two chefs react with contented relief, Shōko-chan appearing first.

Here I’ve featured Masahiro Fujii’s very fine rough, which also shows a bit of the setting. Shöko’s face was refined in Ikuko Itō’s shuusei rough (it mainly makes her eyes bigger). I’ve included the A1 layout, which is pretty dreadful in pose (too face-on) and in perspective (she seems ready to topple back onto the floor behind her from the shock of Hiro’s compliment).
 Caution! Fussy Notes
This sketch pack was unusually complete. It included:
three layouts, the last two done in blue pencil only, plus a layout sheet showing only the level of the table. two roughs and two shuusei roughs for the start and end keys a pink genzu with a schematic image of Shōko, asking for another key for her midway position three gengas (A1-A3), plus again one to set the table’s surface three post-genga shuusei on light-salmon paper and one on light-green (correcting the correction for A2) ten dougas: A1-A9 for Shōko and B tome for the food bowl in front of her. three timing sheets, one original and two copies, showing different stages in the animating process.
