Scene 2, cut 113. Turned into a human by Unico’s magic, the stray cat Chao (or “Chow” as the new manga translation prefers) happily turns to cleaning the cottage that she and the homeless “Granny” now share. Sequence numbers: A13 (Granny), C33 (Chao).
This cel is from the first Sanrio movie based on the Unico manga episodes. It combines the last episode, in which Unico befriends the demon of Solitude (called Beezle in the movie) with an earlier one titled “Cat on a Broomstick,” in which the young unicorn encounters an abandoned cat. Her dream is to encounter a witch and become her familiar, so Unico helps her find a cottage in the woods inhabited by an ancient crone. It turns out that the old woman is no witch, only a homeless and abandoned creature like Chao. So the cat’s wish is frustrated, yet they still become close friends.
This matching set of cels came only with the douga of the old woman (thumbnail). I’ve suggested the original door frame in which Granny is standing with a piece of art paper.
