Scene 3, cut 11. Maron’s reaction to what she has learned about Chiaki/Sinbad is to go to her apartment and curl up in a corner and reflect on the past. This is visualized in the episode by a long, evocative fantasy sequence, in which she replays key moments in her mind. In this part, she is recalling how intensely alone she felt in the world, until she received the note from Chiaki suggesting that they do au gratin together. The “au gratin” note flutters behind her, and hearing it, she abruptly turns and looks behind her – where Chiaki is standing and smiling.

The nicely done genga for the end of Maron's turn is featured above. The thumbs add an interesting genzu included in the sketch set that detailed just what would happen during this quick turn, in which Maron's shoulders move a little faster than her hips. The second thumb is Kagawa's smudgy but effective rough.
