In the next cut, Ginko continues, naming the mushi and describing how it hides in the shadows of ancient trees waiting for a host to come along and fall asleep. There is no cure, he continues, but there are things one can do to protect the memories that are most important.

The first layout is one of those fine-grained color copies that ArtLand made during production and gives an excellent view of what the original art looked like. It also did not fit the background in the previous cut, so it was supplemented with the "BG correction" in the second thumb that (as the note says) meshes with what we see behind Sayo and Kaji in cut 139.
