On first encountering Palme, the initially amoral Shatta proposes selling the lifelike puppet as a curiosity, which he expects will net the gang a fat purse. Bu, who has taken a liking to him, protests and threatens to set the gang's hideaway on fire if they carry through with the scheme. But Shatta calmly asks his sidekick Roualt for a dagger and holds it to the puppet's throat. Palme, being still essentially inanimate, isn't frightened by this at all, but it makes for a good show, and Bu backs off.

Then Shatta notices that the dagger bears the crest of Tamas, the outlaw region from which he himself hails. "Where did you get this?" he demands of Roualt. This puts the thug in a tight spot, as he'd managed to lift it from Palme in an earlier scene. But he stammers out that the puppet was the one who brought it in, and Shatta suddenly looks at his hostage with new respect. Sequence numbers: A2 (Shatta and Palme), B13 (Roualt).

This cut was originally shot with the grandly oversized cels that Studio Palme liked to use for pans, but they were trimmed down for sale, with the sequence numbers remounted on the bottom (A2) and top (B13). As I got them in the same lot, I managed to scan and combine them with a little photoshopping to cover up where the new edges of the cels overlapped.
