This really funny image, a key, shows Mayuko reacting in panic as she realizes what the downdraft is doing to her hair and skirt, while Chiaki, twisting to a stop, starts to grin all over in delight at her special chance to observe a paranormal event.
Thanks to my 2017 auction win, I can now add the corresponding A7 genga and shuusei genga (by AD Yasuda) as thumbnails.
An interesting detail in the second of these is that animation director Yasuda was visibly unhappy with Mayuko’s over-the-top angry expression in the genga and revised it thoroughly, changing the rage to shocked surprise. On the shuusei he added a little image of her face as he imagined it would look just before her eyes pop open in this way. You can see this more clearly in this detail from the shuusei:
And indeed, the inbetweener douga that eventually preceded the matching key douga did in fact copy the expression in this little thumbnail sketch.
