Cut 210. In the cuts immediately following his run through the jasmine jelly platter, there is a blackout, then a dramatic whiteout; then we see, in slow motion, pan images of Noelle, then of Raphael, as they head directly toward each other on a collision course. Sequence number: A4.

As often with TnN cels that you know from their context in the show, nothing really prepares you for the eyes in the actual painted cel. While seen only in profile, they are fully, minutely realized, with internal highlights that could never be seen in the broadcast image.

In addition, it’s amazing that the cel contains so much detail that fell outside the safety during filming. In the final version only a bit of the halo’s outer edge is visible in the top right corner, and its presence is otherwise indicated by a light effect added during post-production. I’ve given a minimally cropped scan here to suggest the full impact of this oversized image. This is a stunner of a cel seen in person, and I appreciate Aethel’s Cels for being willing to part with it.

Vapalla’s Cels has a gorgeous A3 with a copy matching background, while Scortia’s Cel Cavern has the A8. DBZ Sneeze has one from this series as well, and Jerrin’s Cel Gallery has yet another one.
