Akt 26 - Kapitel des Junges: Finale ~ Der Nußknacker. This was a bigger treat: a planning sketch for the key image in this part of the battle: over and over, the raven facing Mytho pecks at his heart, and over and over Mytho defends himself with the flat of his sword, sparks flying.
You can see how this image has been worked up from a more preliminary sketch in blue pencil (with ghostly images of the rank of raven warriors who stand in a line to Mytho’s right. It’s also evident how the animator considered a big zoom in to show just the sweaty Mytho and the raven’s head as they make contact again and again.
The thumbnail shows a somewhat more finished partial sketch of this close-up, with more careful attention to the details of the sword (see the swan on the hilt!) and where he would logically hold it to defend against the raven’s attack.
Ginga’s Anime Galactica used to have another sketch set from this scene showing the raven warrior’s attack from a different and closer angle, but this, alas, is no longer visible.
