And here are the dougas reanimated by the inimitable Vampyreshoujo. The series is based on a single "base douga," labeled A1/1, which were digitally combined with a repeating loop of A1-A9 partials showing the characters' clothing and hair blowing in the breeze.
The dougas were oversized and extremely difficult to scan in exact registration, so this reanimation is a little more fluttery than our norm. Partly the fault lies in the scans, but partly the problem is Toei's decision to put many of the parts of the image on the looping partial dougas that are not in fact supposed to move at all. Some of this results from their wanting to show the changing shadows cast by the costumes floating around them. (Look closely at the legs and you'll see these shadow lines move back and forth with the skirt and cloak.)
Doubtless the CGI animators had the same difficulty in registering these images, which is why the cut in fact runs over a long, slow pan back, which has the effect of minimizing the fluttering you see in the stationary image.
It's still a very, very sexy cut: notice how all the things that are supposed to flap do a little "whip-crack" all at the same moment. Just hum a little "Music of the Night" while watching this and it will have its intended effect.
