From shortly afterwards, this dramatic close-up comes from a moment in which Mokona, having for the moment made piece with Primera, invites her to climb on his back and look at something out of the window. What she sees, however, surprises the little fairy deeply. Sequence number: A3.
I love the rich coloring in the eyes, which contrast sharply with the chilly colors of her long hair and costume. This cel was unfortunately damaged by a previous owner who roughly separated it from its douga. In the process, chunks of paint were lost from the right eyebrow and from one of Primera’s long side locks on the right. (You can see them on the douga, scanned in the thumb.)
I’ve mitigated the damage a bit by putting a bit of light paper behind the second of these and scanning the cel against a dark background, but otherwise I’ve not tried to doctor the scan.
Poor Primera! It’s a shame for such a petite character to endure this kind of misuse. Happily, the trace lines are quite strong, and she’ll be carefully curated from this point on.
