Episode 14: A wedding dress is the target. Scene 13, cut 15. Fish Fin, Jeanne’s tiny magical helper, searching for the source of the latest demonic threat, happens onto her evil counterpart, Sinbad’s sidekick, the sooty-winged, pointy-eared imp Time Access. “Aw, crap,” he comments characteristically as Fin flies up, demanding to know what kind of devil’s work he’s up to. “That’s not it!” he turns to tell her, adding (in the next cut) “I can’t explain, but I still love you!”
I’ve been looking for an Access sketch for a long time, but he’s one of the rarest and most collected characters in this series. No wonder! He’s incredibly cute, with three long black pony tails (one on each side and a big one in the back), a loincloth, and a pair of slouchy blue jeans that are frayed all around the cuffs: a wonderful Tanemura creation faithfully realized by Toei. This sketch gives one the best views of his character design I’ve seen.
Unfortunately, the dougas are nearly all partials (he turns and looks at Finn the same way for a long time while his ponytails and loincloth flutter and the jean cuff frizzes). But visit the thumbs for a look at the A1 genga (which shows off his wings and rear pony tail better) and a nice copy layout.
