Another of the fey ideas that the animator played with and then radically rethought was having this image of a long-distance runner appear in front of the two athletes in the previous image. This rather determined runner seems to have a series of long feathers mounted on the sleeve of his uniform, making him look a little like an ostrich on the trot.
Above is the more finished of the two drawings I got; click the thumbnail below for the simpler one, which adds a rather haughty second model to the right, with a ghostly erased figure (a golfer?) to the left.
As the screen cap shows, the long-distance runner was replaced by a soccer player, who's running toward the ball in an outfit that looks vaguely Elizabethan.
