This amazingly beautiful cel was the one that told me I should own at least a few cels from this series. The deep golden light, which accents her hypnotic amber eyes, gives this image a fiery intensity. Also, her pose, with both arms flung out in a strong diagonal, unifies the composition in an exciting, off-kilter way. She seems to be flying, though I think she’s just about to give some character a rather disturbing vampire-princess glomp. Sequence number: A12 END.
This cel seemed a little nervous when I bought her at Otakon 2006, not really sure if she’d feel at home with her overwhelmingly cute cel-book neighbors. She felt a little bit better when she realized she was riding home with Kougaiji. But she was ecstatic when I gave her this non-matching background, actually a piece of scrapbooking pattern paper that I’d picked up the week before. It really does make her look as if she’s got someone cornered in the small bedroom of a Western-style country home, ne?
