Episode 37 (Revive, Hikaru's Sword!), cut 23. With the furious Asuka now safely pinned in mid-air by Wind of Admonition, Fuu gently but firmly asks to have her glove returned. (The glove contains her armor and allows her to merge with her mashin Windom.) Then she elegantly slips it on her hand.
This is not an especially dramatic genga set, but the images of Fuu are extraordinarily beautiful, and the attention given to the details of how she dons the glove are artistically interesting. And it gives us a chance to watch the often delicate work of episode animation director Madoka Hirayama [平山円], one of the regulars for the second season. So I’ve sampled this sketch set generously, keeping in mind that, if it’s a CLAMP character, those eyes just have to be right.
Shown here is the A2 genga, in which Fuu looks quietly over the surroundings. The first thumbnail shows the nearly complete shuusei that Hirayama executed, adjusting nearly every detail … pointing the head down a bit, shrinking the hair slightly, and so on.
The animators gave this cut a bit of extra energy by having Fuu start by opening her huge green eyes; the eyes-closed A1 genga is in the second thumb.

Madoka Hirayama was one of the most extensively used animators in this series. He began with the opening episodes of the first season as a key animator, then was promoted to animation director for two episodes (13 and 18). In the second season, Hirayama supervised the animation for seven episodes, including this one, more than any other artist. He also provided key animation to Cardcaptor Sakura and Vampire Princess Miyu.
