Cut 226. Noelle gapes in shock as Ruka's sweet potato harvester self-destructs in pyrotechnics. The rest of the family watches with a mixture of dismay and sarcasm. Sequence numbers: A1 END (family), B1 END (Sara's mouth layer), C1 END (Gabriel's mouth layer), D1 END (Noelle), E3 END (Noelle's mouth layer).
This set-up shows some of the limitations of cel technology: I found it very difficult to bring up the contrast on the A1 layer to where it looked good, since it had four layers of acetate over it. Also, the layers of plastic made nearly every mat I put behind the setup look too dark. Clearly problems such as these hurried the move from these last few cel-based series into the CGI technology, which was already in use as TnN was finishing up.
