Eros, fresh from hearing about Muse's plot to take advantage of Noelle's malfunctioning halo, realizes that that halo is necessary to become an angel. He rushes to share this with his mistress, sure that this idea will make her love him. But he ends up in this vast empty space, where he looks around, wondering where Silky-sama is.

I've scanned this in a little more detail than the other gengas so you can get a clearer view of the remarkable detail of all these sketches. The thumbnail shows the copy layout of this image that I got with the sketch pack.

SENSEI CHECK!

Step 22 is a pivotal one in the series' shift from random and comic to dark and serious. It was directed by Episode Director: Akira Shigino [鴫野彰], an experienced hand who did extensive work on the Crayon Shin-chan franchise. Storyboarding was done by "Katsuyo Hashimoto," one of several pseudonyms used by Mamoru Hosoda during his apprentice years. This artist burst into global sight by directing The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) and has since been recognized as one of Japan's leading anime directors.

The script was done by Mamiko Ikeda [池田眞美子], one of the central team who created the series and a wide-ranging screenplay/series composition artist in many other series (including Princess Tutu.)

Two artists were credited for animation direction of this episode, Takako Onishi [大西貴子\] and Tetsuya Yamamoto [山本哲也]. Onishi appears to have been the senior partner, having previously done this task for the Pierrot projects Akachan to Boku and Fancy Lala. He was animation director for Step 18 and contributed to Step 25 as well. The artist also did considerable work on the Saiyuki series, including the Requiem movie plus Reload and Gunlock. He remains active, mostly recently providing episode animation direction to the 2018 Pierrot project Sanrio Boys.

Tetsuya Yamamoto we have met before as animation director for Step 21 (see the gallery devoted to this episode). He had a brief animating career before moving to a different production task, negotiating overseas rights for Studio Ghibli releases.
