Cut 221. On their way supposedly “back home,” Tetsu suddenly stops by the turn to the overlook. Shōko, a little ahead of him, realizes this and turns toward him. She can see that he’s concerned about how the adult Karada feels toward her not-really-her-big-brother, and she tells him not to worry. “I’m sure things are all right between them,” she reassures Tetsu.
This sketch set included only the layout and a set of roughs and shuuseis; no gengas or dougas. Featured is a full rough of the end keys, I believe also by Ryoichi Oki who handled other cuts in this scene, showing Shōko turned toward Tetsu in the right foreground. The first thumb includes the detailed but preliminary background (perhaps also by Oki), which suggests that Shōko is wearing a backpack. A genzu in this pack (not imaged) makes it clear that she is instead carrying the too-big purse that she’s seen with in an earlier cut. The second cut adds Oki’s rough of the A3 key, showing Shōko midway in her turn.
