Episode: 68 (Sakura, the Past, and Clow Reed): “Seasons come and go naturally, Clow Reed tells Sakura, adding, I am just like the fallen leaves that have experienced the change in seasons.” Sakura suddenly finds herself in an autumn landscape, with the sun setting and dead leaves swirling around her. Sequence number: A18; original laser-printed background. Notice how the “camera” angle is heavily tilted to the right, giving the image a “nightmare” quality and making it unclear whether Sakura is running toward us or falling back into the sunset.
The background imaged here is a laser-printed copy (see first thumbnail for a closer look). But it now looks as if the actual backgrounds used to film this and adjacent cuts were themselves digitally manipulated copies rather than actual watercolor paintings.
