Welcome to my collection of animation art! As you'll see, I take a "museum" approach to this gallery. Rather than post up images of cels alone, I've taken care to annotate the items I collect, putting them in context whenever possible and providing background information on the series and the creators. I try to make visiting this site a way to learn more about the artistic process behind animation, regardless of the series.
So in addition to beautiful cels, you'll see some of the production materials--sketches, backgrounds, settei, storyboards, "test" cels--that let us look behind the scenes at the animation studios that produced these series.
I collect dramatic scenes from series that exemplify good animation art. Originally, I focused on cels, sketches, and other artifacts from Madhouse Studio's classic adaptation of the CLAMP series CardCaptor Sakura.
However, as time went on, I found myself adding nice items from other series, especially A Tree of Palme, Hyper Police, Inuyasha, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Magic Knight Rayearth, Powerpuff Girls Z, Princess Tutu, Saiyuki, Tenshi ni Narumon, and Tonde Buurin. To make your visit efficient, I've subdivided the larger collections by character, episode, or theme.
If you're not sure where to start, begin with the "Quick Gallery Tour." There I've given a picture of the whole collection on one page, and then reviewed each series I collect, one page per series, with a lot of links to the individual galleries as you go.
When feasible, I've limited each gallery to 24 openly visible images. Most of these, however, contain still more "hidden" items, mostly alternative sketches or sequence-mate cels I've been able to reunite.
If you're a real lover of animation art, then go to "Private Area" and type in the super-secret password "seemorestuff" to gain access to these "hidden" extras.
So pack a picnic lunch and spend some time exploring -- and whatever your reaction, please feel free to send me feedback! ______________________________________________
The banner I’m using now is based on an original watercolor background showing an otherworldly kooloop tree in Nakamura's anime movie A Tree of Palme. The current background is from Tonde Buurin, showing a peaceful Hawaiian seashore. (Click the link to see the A18 cel layer showing a humongous tsunami. Surf's up!)
